Winter Spice

*Bronze Medal Winner - Mazer Cup International 2024*

Honeymoon Meadery proudly presents 'Winter Spice', crafted from raw local honey harvested from our family's own bee hives, then abundantly spiced with cinnamon, clove, nutmeg & all spice - finished in a semi-sweet style.

It's the spicier, sweeter version of our bestseller 'Ode to Odin' without the oak, but get it quick as it's available for a limited time only!

Semi-sweet (3) | 15% alc. / vol. | 375ml

Pale straw in colour, a bold nose offers sweet honey with fig, baking spice and dried apricot notes.  On the palate, sweet spices give way to a long finish with lingering notes of nutmeg, clove & all spice.

Serve chilled or warm!
Warmed up, this mead is noticeably crisper and drinks like a mulled cider!

Disappointingly Forgettable

I ordered this Winter Spice Mead as I have ordered mead by other makers in the past andquite enjoyed it, But has been a while, and hasn’t tried the Honeymoon Meadery product. I also got a bottle of Ode to Odin.

Let me preface by saying I have ordered other products from Planet Honey before and will continue to do so; but it won’t be their mead.

I was actually quite disappointed with the mead overall. Neither the Ode to Odin or Winter Spice are very honey forward. The spices in the Winter Spice are heavily subdued to the point of barely noticeable. Just comes across as a slightly sweeter wine without much uniqueness.

Unfortunately, I would choose many cheap ten dollar bottles of wine over this mead, which is disappointing because I was looking forward to trying these. I just can’t recommend this product at almost $30 for a 375ml bottle.

I will continue to order honey and other bee products from Planet Honey but never again the mead.

Hi J Easton,

I am sorry to hear that you didn't like the bronze medal winning Winter Spice Mead and disappointed that you have decided not to try any others due to that.
If there is one thing I've learned working behind the mead bar, judging in worldwide mead competitions, and earning a few medals along the way, is that what is a 'good' mead is entirely subjective once you've ruled out any distinct wine flaws. Winter Spice was never intended to be a 'spice bomb' and you may quite like our Apple Indulgence instead, as it is very spice forward (vanilla and cinnamon) with a decent honey finish.
I take pride in evaluating feedback during a tasting and steering customers toward a mead I believe will be a good fit for their palate. What I love most about mead is the diversity of styles and I truely believe that there is a mead out there for every preference.
If you are willing to give our mead another chance or can stop by for a free tasting, I would be happy to assist you in trying some alternatives such as our spice forward Apple Indulgence, or silver medal winning sweet traditional mead Nectar of the Sun.

Winter Spice

It was very good. I overexpected the taste however. Probably because of the word "spice", I was expecting a cinnamon like flavor. I don't know why, I just did lol.
