Propolis comes from the Greek words 'pro' meaning 'entrance' & 'to defend', and 'polis' meaning 'community'!
Propolis is the beehive's first line of defense against germs, protecting the hive's health & immunity. The bees smooth Propolis across openings and doorways to the hive, and use it like glue to seal up any cracks or places intruders could get in.
How is Propolis made?
Propolis is a natural resinous mixture created when bees collect the resins of best available trees & plants, often from the buds of poplar and other cone-bearing trees. The bees enhance these resins with pure beeswax and enzymes found in their saliva, creating what we know as pure raw propolis.
What can I use Propolis for?
Propolis offers many health benefits - both internally, for mouth & throat irritations, and externally, as a topical skin treatment.
With a long history in traditional medicine, the biological properties of propolis include: antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antiprotozoan, antitumor, anti-inflammatory, local anesthetic and antioxidant.
The National Institute of Health indicates the use of propolis for treating cold sores, genital herpes, and post-surgery mouth pain. Topically, propolis has traditionally been used as a wound dressing and for other skin irritations as well as itchy skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
It can also benefit oral health, and when combined with other immune supporting herbs & vitamins, aids in the maintenance of a healthy immune system.
What forms of Propolis are available to me?
